A man and his dog ~ San Francisco Portrait Photography ~

I had such a wonderful time doing this portraits.  Firstly, Capp was just too cute for words and luckily for Christian I didn’t try to take him home in camera bag.  Secondly, Christian really came prepared for his portraits with outfits planned out and a great smile.

Artists Working Together ~ Portrait Photography San Francisco ~

I love the collaboration of artists working together and supporting each other.  Why they are not supportive or encouraging surprises me.  Here are instances of me working with a variety of artists and the imagery really is a collaboration.  The results are fantastic and a benefit.  Let’s work together for the better.  Be supportive with other creatives!

Beautiful Julia Morgan Ballroom ~ San Francisco Wedding Photography ~

Lisa and Joe had such an amazing wedding that I know no one will soon forget.  There were lots of laughs, many a tear shed and lots of love this day and so obviously in their lives.  Our Lady of Angels church was near and dear to Lisa and her family as life long parishioners and just a beautiful location.  We were then off on “cable” car to hit the streets and do some fun portraits.  This was a fun crowd to be sure.  We were running all over the top of Nob Hill.

The next stop was one of my favorite venues, Julia Morgan Ballroom in downtown San Francisco.  After an amazing dinner the band Pride & Joy really worked the crowd and had them moving.  This band too is just one of my favorites.  People do not want to sit down!

Wedding Portraits ~ San Francisco Wedding Photography ~

My favorite wedding portraits are those that are just simple, timeless, natural and show the love and uniqueness of a couple.   They can be silly and romantic at the same time!  I think Rob and Britney are just that perfect example!

Jamie and James ~ San Francisco Engagement Session ~

Engagement Portraits

San Francisco Engagement Session

The laughs and love Jamie and James have for each other is just obvious. We had a lot of fun doing this San Francisco engagement session and I think you can tell! It started at the bar for the nervous bride to be and ended jumping puddles in the street. It was a great day!

An Intimate San Francisco Wedding

Sandra + Dinesh, ~ San Francisco Wedding Photography ~ Misti Layne

If there is a wedding that says San Francisco Wedding Photography this is it.  It was just an intimate wedding at City Hall with some portraits at iconic San Francisco landmarks.  This couple is truly beautiful inside and outside and it was an absolute honor to be part of the day.  Best to you both!

Dress for Success ~ San Francisco Portrait Photography ~

I met lovely Rita because she had won the auction for my photography services at the Dress for Success event this year.   This is one of those times that when you think you are giving but you are actually receiving.  This amazing woman gave me insights to life, uplifted my spirits, made me change my mind on aging and made me laugh, a lot.   We did her portraits at the Legion of Honor and it was just a perfect day all around.

Holiday Portraits ~ San Francisco Photographer Misti Layne ~

Holiday portraits are a time to be silly in my opinion.  When you have a restless two year old boy, well, you let him be a boy!

San Francisco at Night ~ Engagement Session Photography ~

Engagement Session photography is among my favorite.  It is during this time that the couple and I get to spend some time together with no stress in a variety of places and just have fun.  I learn about them and they get to see how I work.  I find this really important before a wedding to help build trust. If we do an engagement session then when I walk into the room the day of your wedding you are excited and assured that the day will go well when I arrive. The difference is “Misti is here!” and not “The photographer is here.”  I love that!

Little Amelie ~ Napa Family Portrait Photographer ~ Misti Layne

Little Amelie had her first professional portraits taken in a beautiful private home in St. Helena.  We let her run, smell, walk, fall and smile to her hearts content!

Boys will be Boys ~ San Francisco Family Portrait Photographer ~

One was happy and one was cheeky.  One was willing and one was fighting.  One became sad and the other then became happy.  The crazy day of child photography!  But when you let kids be kids the faces, the expressions, the cheeky NO and the smile say much more than “Look at the camera and smile!”

Family Portraits ~Portrait Photography San Francisco~

This lovely family and I spent the afternoon in Golden Gate Park and just let things happen. We had no say in what happened next and it was quite fun!  Portrait photography and frankly just about all photography of a personal nature should be about emotions, expressions and feelings.  I think these images express that.   Sareen was totally in charge here for everything!  She’s quite  a happy and adored little girl and I think that shows.

Character Acting Headshots ~Los Angeles Headshots Photography~

Acting Headshots are to actors what business cards are to the rest of us.  They are incredibly important and if you don’t make an impression in a nanosecond the opportunity may be gone.  Casting directors, managers and agents may spend a split second deciding if you are right for the role or their agency.

I’ve been photographing actors headshots for over 10 years now and while black and white is no longer the standard some general ideas still are. I found this great page from agent Rick Miller titled Be Who You Are.  His advice is just so spot on.  I’ve sat with an agent friend as he sifts through headshots that came in the mail.  The images that were taken by friends or friends who are photographers 99 times out of 100 get tossed. Sorry to disappoint you, but it is true.  Why? Because the image doesn’t connect, likely they are starting out and lack any sort of resume and aren’t taking this business seriously.  If you aren’t why should someone put all that effort into you?  I know many actors in Los Angeles and San Francisco. These people work hard and on a daily basis to make things happen.

Take for instance Brian Chenoweth.  He has been doing this for ages but went out and got a degree and now runs a business but it allows him flexibility to go out for auditions, call backs and the job if he books it.  He loves what he does and does everything to make it happen.  You should see his credentials and resume and can at IMDB where he’s also posted my photos.  Brian is a great character actor and the demand for people like him is high. If you think because you are blonde and blue eyed you are destined to make it well, think again.  You have a lot of competition!

Here is another story of Eddie Alfano and he too has my images posted.  He is a great and gorgeous guy who works his butt off to make things happen.  So he knows what type of guy he will play and has created images to help sell that.  The first image on IMDB is one we took especially to get cop roles.  It worked.

So go about your career as an actor as a business because it is.  I got into photography as a kid because I liked it.  I still do!  But it is also my livelyhood and I do it because there isn’t anything else I’d rather do.

Good luck!!
