SIlicon Valley Rocks at DNA Lounge ~ Music Photography San Francisco ~

A great time was had by all at DNA Lounge’s Silicon Valley Rocks event to help bring music and keep it in schools so that kids may rock on for years to come.  I was happy to share in the music and fun with such a great group of people.

Travels abroad…Turkey Bound! ~ Turkey Travel Photography ~ Misti Layne

I love to travel and do it any chance I can get.  I went to Turkey a few years ago and knew I had to go back.  I’m a totally history geek so when I saw this trip included Troy, Ephesus, Hierapolis, Pergamum and more I knew I had to go.   It was filled with amazing history, lovely people, adorable animals and a great opportunity for photographs.  Now, I’m exhausted and need a weekend in Mexico to relax!  I hope you enjoy just a few of my images and the words I write are somehow conveyed here.  Thanks for looking!

International Surgical Foundation ~ Photojournalism by Misti Layne ~

The past few months have been really non stop and I love it!  I just returned from Scottsdale for a wonderful photography conference that has me totally energized to hit the pavement with my camera for a trip soon to Turkey.  A country I really enjoy and can’t wait to go back and shoot some film again!  Yes, I said film!

One of my best friends has a brother who is a back surgeon in Scottsdale, Arizona.  He’s been going to the Dominican Republic to do corrective surgeries for people who cannot afford it and are truly limited in their lives due to pinched discs and scoliosis and a plethora of things that can happen without proper care.  Remember the “bend over” test in grade school where they checked your spine?  They don’t do that in Dominican Republic and I’ve never seen anything like what I did there.  Also we went to the local children’s hospital where incredibly there could be 3 kids in one bed surrounded by family.  It was tough and enlightening. If you ever think you have it bad…come back and look at these images.

The families and patients were so incredibly grateful for this opportunity.  Almost 30 people came together on their own time and dime to help these people.  It was for me a photographic experience I won’t soon forget.  Apparently the next stop is Chad, Africa.  I’m in!  These images for the most part are not graphic but a couple may make you squeamish.  I apologize but I think it is truly essential to the story.  Photojournalism needs to tell a story and this is a must. Thank you for looking.

A Couple and Headshots ~ Headshots San Francisco ~

Valerie is an actress and Andrew is a doctor.  They both needed new headshots and we set about to do just that.  This was quite unique to have a couple together at the same time but it was fantastic for me because their connection kept the mood light, fun and funny and totally authentic.  In between moments they would come together after perfectly supporting the other during their time and do sweet things like the final image.

No matter what the purpose of your images are the true feelings need to be authentic and this is really the biggest part of my job.  The kind of camera I use or the lenses are completely irrelevant.  It’s the connection between my subject and me, not my camera, that counts.  So when I work to make you laugh or give queues then I’m working to make the best image of you possible.  In this case, I had help from a spouse!!  Good luck you two on everything!

Valley of the Moon Winery Celebration ~ Napa Event Photography ~

It was great fun photographing the event at Valley of the Moon winery to celebrate their 150th anniversary.  It was great fun, great food provided by The Girl and the Fig,  The Speakeasies were a lot of fun and well of course the wine was fantastic!  They really know how to throw an event in wine country.

Artists Working Together ~ Portrait Photography San Francisco ~

I love the collaboration of artists working together and supporting each other.  Why they are not supportive or encouraging surprises me.  Here are instances of me working with a variety of artists and the imagery really is a collaboration.  The results are fantastic and a benefit.  Let’s work together for the better.  Be supportive with other creatives!

Backyard Weddings ~ San Francisco Wedding Photography ~

I’m a total San Francisco city dweller.  What is a backyard?  But this wedding was held in the backyard of a wonderful couple for their daughter and new daughter-in-law and was fabulous!  The details screamed Restoration Hardware and everything so warm, inviting and unique.  The team on this wedding was Woodland’s Floral by Catherine, Insalata Catering with Chris Engel (who makes an absolutly AMAZING taramasalata) and A Memorable Event by Ceil Mangelli who oversaw the details.  I am so happy and honored to be a part of this wonderful couple’s day.

Pelican Inn Wedding ~ Wedding Photography San Francisco ~ Misti Layne

This wedding was unique in that the bride was French and brought along a few new customs and I got to work barefoot! The day was so beautiful albeit a bit windy but for this couple it didn’t matter.  They brought together their families to start a new life and celebrate with close friends and family.  The ceremony was held at Stinston Beach and Celine Hakoun of Avenue Lesage Events has this place looking amazing.  We then went off to the fun and quaint Pelican Inn near Muir Woods.  I love this place and the rustic feel of it all.  Pico Designs added pops of color and elegance from the flowers to the event.   One of those weddings that just really makes me appreciate what I do and who I do it with…great vendors and of course a beautiful couple.

San Francisco Presidio Wedding~ San Francisco Wedding Photography ~ by Misti Layne

San Francisco locals Adam and Christine really took their guests into account for this really “fun” priority wedding.  We started at their home which was great with the awesome views and a ridiculously funny cat.  I have to admit I did get a little distracted by her.

Then from there we were off to the Presidio Chapel and then the Golden Gate Club.  Not only do these places have great views but they are historical and easy for guests to get to.  If you know San Francisco, this is huge!  But the most unique part of this day was for the first time ever I’ve seen karaoke done at a wedding and it rocked!  The crowd loved it and I have to say it was really entertaining and amusing for me as well.  All the best to you both, I think there are a lot of laughs and much fun in your future together.

They Might Be Giants Rock The Warfield ~ San Francisco Music Photography ~

They Might Be Giants played an amazing show at The Warfield in San Francisco.  The musicians were tight and entertaining to be sure.  The opening band Moon Hooch was truly unique and glad I got to see them.

Ritz Carlton Wedding ~ San Francisco Wedding Photographer ~

This amazing wedding was truly East meets Midwest!  Amy and Spencer met at Michigan State University.  The wedding WEEKEND was here in San Francisco luckily for me.  In one day, in one amazing location, 300 people came together and celebrated with Indian flair, style and tradition and Western elegance and modern day takes on tradition.  The Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay hosted this event and planner Tejel Patel brought it together perfectly.  The florals by De Young Flowers captured all the nuances of both traditions from the traditional Indian garlands to the bride’s bouquet.  This is a wedding I’ll never forget! Living in the Bay Area and all it’s different peoples make me a very happy San Francisco wedding photographer.  It is never the same and often quite unique.

Beautiful Julia Morgan Ballroom ~ San Francisco Wedding Photography ~

Lisa and Joe had such an amazing wedding that I know no one will soon forget.  There were lots of laughs, many a tear shed and lots of love this day and so obviously in their lives.  Our Lady of Angels church was near and dear to Lisa and her family as life long parishioners and just a beautiful location.  We were then off on “cable” car to hit the streets and do some fun portraits.  This was a fun crowd to be sure.  We were running all over the top of Nob Hill.

The next stop was one of my favorite venues, Julia Morgan Ballroom in downtown San Francisco.  After an amazing dinner the band Pride & Joy really worked the crowd and had them moving.  This band too is just one of my favorites.  People do not want to sit down!
