What a pretty girl! ~San Francisco Portrait Photographer~

So I love when I come across a random roll of film that didn’t make it into the lab.  Of course I hope it wasn’t from 34 years or weddings ago WHICH has never happened but I stumbled on this one recently and just thought I had to throw it up. I took it with a Holga and somehow, someway this little girl does not mind dressing up.

She said YES!!! ~San Francisco Wedding Photographer~

So Ify and Onyie are both originally from Nigeria but found love here five years ago…today Ify had the best day planned and even in the rain it was a success!  First a limo ride into the City, a helicopter ride over the City and a photo session with moi followed by dinner at Farallon.  All very exciting on their own right? Well,  little did Onyie know that during our photo session Ify was going to propose.  The idea was originally maybe Baker Beach or someplace romantic.  Well, Baker Beach is not all that romantic in a downpour.  So I pull Fort Point out of a hat of places open on a Sunday and it was perfect.  The light, the rain, the textures of the fort were fabulous and just perfect for this wonderful couple.  She was shocked to be sure but did say yes.  Ify did just the most fabulous job and I just wish them all the very best.  So to a VERY newly engaged couple (as of 4.45 today!!) all the very, very best!!!

Essence Images by Misti Layne ~San Francisco Music Photographer~

OK, now we are talking about my heart.  I get razzed a lot about my choice to use film but I have to say I just won’t stop!  Some photographers will ask me why and I just say why not!  It’s beautiful, timeless and textural.   I love using toy cameras too and I had so much fun with a Holga that I took to Eastern Europe (I’ve been shooting with a Holga for years now on different things) that I just wanted to do more.  I guess I’m regressing against technology but I do remember the simpler times in life and have the fondest memories of those times.  I love these recent portraits I did and just had to share.  I call them Essence Images.  The idea is really just hitting the essence of the person.  No frills, no poses, letting a child just be no forced smile or capturing someone while they are introspective for a moment or just off guard.  I find them so beautiful and simple and just people at their core of who they are.  These images are not touched up in away…they just are what they are.  Call if you are interested but be prepared to answer the question “What is the inner core and essence of me?”

Let’s just play!

So I admit I’m a huge fan of film.  I’ll never give it up–ever!  But there are some fun things you can do with digital that like a lot too. I was working an event last week at Epic Roasthouse (on the Embarcadero…you can

see my review at www.yelp.com too) and there was a little downtime so I started to play of course.  In this photo I captured obviously the Bay Bridge but also a painting on the back wall about 30 feet away, the patio in front of me and a jogger on the path.  I love it!  There is so much going on and you really have to try to figure it all out.  There are just numerous layers to this and FYI none of them with Photoshop!!!

Personal Holga Pics

I took these shots a couple of weeks ago and just love the textures!
